Writing inspirations – a wonderful deco-era hotel

Today’s writing inspiration – for NaNoWriMo entrants and for writers of all persuasions – is the Hollywood Hotel, a bar and performance venue on Foster Street in central Sydney.

Long-time readers of this blog will know I am a tremendous fan of art deco. This has to be one of the better examples I have seen of a small deco building – finished, Sydney style, in masonry.

  1. I agree, a great example! Of course, this is an observation from another great fan of art deco. BTW, these inspiration posts are wonderful!

    1. Thanks! I get a lot of inspiration looking for good photographic subjects – hopefully bringing some of that to the posts. I find the process quite similar to writing, incidentally. Some of the pix, like the Sydney fruiterer, were simply quick snapshots, whereas I’d stalked this deco building for a couple of days – it was just up from where we were staying – and got a handle on some of the lighting. It’s akin, for me at least, to those moments when something ‘happens’ with the writing process and the words flow – or when it takes a while to work out the best approach.
