This week’s mega short-story challenge

This week’s writing challenge revolves around a photo I took of the Wairau Bar, Marlborough, New Zealand, late one winter’s afternoon.

Use the photo to inspire a 150-200 word super-short story – a proper one, with beginning, middle, end and punchline (all super-short stories gotta have a punchline) – and post it on your blog, with the prompt photo and a link back to this blog for others to pick up and join in the fun. of course the story can be about anything.

This is the place where, archaeologists believe, Polynesians first stepped on to New Zealand shores around 1280 AD. The moment marked the first known arrival of humans to New Zealand – it was possibly pre-dated by ‘discovery’ arrivals invisible to archaeology. Either way, this was the last large habitable land mass to be reached by humans since leaving Africa, many millennia before, completing the effective spread of humanity across the globe. It was kind of cool to be able to stand on the same place.
