This week’s writing challenge revolves around a photo I took of a beach-front park in Napier, New Zealand.
If you’re doing NaNoWriMo, does this photo inspire ideas? If you’re not – well, the usual writing challenge rules apply. Use the photo to inspire a 150-200 word super-short story – a proper one, with beginning, middle, end and punchline (all super-short stories gotta have a punchline) – and post it on your blog, with the prompt photo and a link back to this blog for others to pick up and join in the fun. of course the story can be about anything.
This particular park was set up in the early 1930s after a devastating earthquake and fire destroyed Napier’s CBD. Much of the debris was pushed out to the foreshore and became the basis of this park. The fountain on the left was built with funds donated by a local identity, Tom Parker, in 1936. At night it glows multi-coloured, like a Hollywood fantasy (I knew the guy that had to change the bulbs in the spotlights…)
