There are over a million individual words in English. Most of them are quite obscure and deserve better attention than they get. This week’s is callipygian.
It’s a borrow word from Greek and means ‘possessing shapely buttocks’. No really.

A brewery in Boulder, Colorado has named one of their beers ‘Callipygian.’ It’s described as a ‘full-bodied, bodacious, and well-rounded stout.’

I’ve noticed those craft brewers can be pretty creative.

We have quite a number here in NZ who certainly are – both in their recipes and in the names and branding. Quite a boutique industry these days.

There had to be a word for it…what is the derivation?

It’s thought to have originated in English in the eighteenth century and is derived from the Greek ‘kallos’ (beauty) and ‘puge’ (buttocks).

Both guys turned to watch the woman as she passed them. The one gave a low whistle, adding, “Wow! Nice boobs and very callipygian – my kind of gal.”
