Writing advice services

One of the things I do besides write is advise other people on it – I’ll assess manuscripts, offer ways to fix them and so on. I also edit, and have done that professionally for many years. And I know the publishing industry. I actually worked as a corporate publisher where, among other things, I had to evaluate the quality of the editors I hired.

It’s one of those things; I’ve got a skill set built up from over 30 years of doing this stuff, so why not share it? Here’s what I can offer:

Manuscript evaluation

Everything from a quick overview to a detailed read-and-comment that highlights any structural, stylistic, content and other issues. Value-add commentary on your one-page proposal/synopsis, or on your first 1500 words, is $75. Full professional review of your manuscript depends on length. Contact me for a quote.

Pitch development

Includes coaching on how the industry works and how to develop loglines (‘elevator pitches’). Can be by email/message exchange, based on professional rate of $150/hr.

General writing and publishing services

General services available on any of my expert fields, including history, based on a professional rate of $150/hr.
